About GameSecretary.com

GameSecretary was originally written entirely in ASP.NET 2.0 and Transact-SQL. It utilized the .NET Framework 2.0, VB.NET, and SQL Server 2005. While I have long been an amateur programmer this was the first project of significance which I carried through to completion. Programming of this application began around May of 2005 and has continued to the present. It represents hundreds of man hours.

The latest iteration of GameSecretary is being rewritten with utilizing ASP.NET 4.0 and SQL Server 2008 R2. It will include a rewritten back-end database to optimize speed and relevance and will likely utilize the Entity Framework and LINQ-to-Entities rather than the traditional Transact-SQL model.

I wrote the application because I saw myself preparing for game time at youth group in one of two ways:

  • No Preparation - This results in a few favorite games which over time are played out and ruined. Eventually the youth get bored with the games.
  • Lots of Preparation - Truly preparing and ensuring the games are unique and enjoyable takes a lot of time. This reduced the amount of time available for lesson preparation and interacting with teens in everyday life.

I decided that neither of these alternatives was in the best interest of the youth group or the youth leaders and that youth leaders needed a centralized resource that will allow them to quickly and effectively find great games. So, that's why Game Secretary exists. Use it to its fullest!
